Black Friday, Indeed
As I'm sure everyone in America knows, today is Black Friday, that magical day after Thanksgiving's gastrointestinal gluttony when every red-blooded USA shopper's financial gluttony gets a chance to show its sharp green horns. Today, however, something else became evident, something that makes me doubt the future of humanity.
People died today, all for the sake of a bargain.
No, not in wrecks in parking lots or on uber-congested highways. Not from heart attacks at the spectacular low prices offered by every strip mall in existence. People died because they forgot one simple rule that we all should have learned in kindergarten: wait your turn.
Worker dies at Long Island Wal-Mart after being trampled in Black Friday stampede
I've seen the crowds at these early-bird shopping sprees, and know how crazy they can get, but this is beyond the pale, folks. Is there any merchandise, anywhere, that's worth stomping someone to death over? I can't think of any, not even the promise of a PT Cruiser or a Blackberry Touch, both of which I want badly.
Whatever those people were after, I hope it was worth living with this for the rest of their lives. I couldn't. Could you?
