My Link Broke!
Last night, around 8:30, I noticed that I had lost my internet connection. I went over to the Boss's computer, and he wasn't online either. Then I looked at the cable modem, and the Ready light was blinking. Not really feeling up to dealing with Charter at that moment, I chose to go shower, before I got too sleepy.
I came back to my desk sometime later and still had no connection. The Boss and I decided it was time to call Charter and do the usual dance, thinking all would be right with the world at the end of it. NOT! The Boss and the tech did all the usual troubleshooting, to no avail, then got into some other stuff that I was unfamiliar with. Finally, it was decided that we needed an onsite tech, but one wouldn't be available until Saturday! The only good thing was, we had retained our dialup account with Access 2000, so we could at least get online...well...he could, on his laptop. As for me, if I needed online, I'd have to use his, and I hate that laptop because I can hardly see the screen!
So, I went to bed a very unhappy camper.
Got up this morning and I noticed that the Ready light wasn't blinking anymore, but was steady on as it should be. I pointed this out to Boss, who started tinkering around and, after a time, said that it seemed like the router was having problems, because we couldn't grab an IP address. Oh lord...going from bad to worse here....
But...he kept tinkering, configuring, doing whatever Techzilla magic he does...and eventually, we both had internet! YAY! I've been practically glued to this machine all day, like I'm afraid if I leave it, it will die again. Go ahead and laugh; I don't care. The internet is my link to civilization, and my kids, my friends, and oh, I might even have to work once in a while ;)
I just want you kids to know...you were Mama's first thought when this thing went down.
Oh by the way...the tech is coming on Saturday anyway, because Boss said his upload speed sucks bigtime. I never noticed that, because I usually download instead of going the other direction.
This was a really eye-opening experience. I guess it's time for me to come clean:
My name is Teressa and I am an Internetaholic... :)
