The Wheels on the Bus Go 'Round and 'Round
But in Redding's "wonderful" bus system, they go 'round very slowly lately.
I had to make an unexpected run to the bank (I had expected to foist it off on the Boss!) So I rushed around and got ready, got down to the bus stop shortly before the half-hour departure time at 12:30...and waited...and waited... Twenty minutes later, the bus finally showed up. We literally lurched down the road (oh my neck!) until we got to the northern transfer station in Redding. There are two buses that go downtown from there, Bus 11, and Bus 14. I prefer 14 because it's (usually) faster, but today I had to settle for 11, because 14 had already departed by the time we reached Northpoint. I got to the mall area, got my banking done...and just missed getting to jump back on 14 and come home! If I hadn't stopped to talk to the teller...!
So I trudged on to the mall, killed a little time, then headed back to the bus stop. And waited, and waited... Eleven was late...20 minutes late. Fourteen, which usually arrives before 11, still hadn't shown up yet. I decided that I'd just grab whichever of the two showed up first, and as bad luck would have it, it was 11. We finally got back up to Northpoint, where I was to catch the Shasta Lake bus (#1) home. But since 11 was so far behind schedule, 1 had already left, which meant I'd have to wait at least 30 more minutes. Fifteen minutes later, #1 showed up, and I thought, at last my luck is changing! NOT! The bus sat and waited for 11, who had transfers for 1, for 30 minutes!
All in all, it took me 4 1/2 hours to make this normally 3-hour trip, just to make a little deposit in the bank.
And here's the kicker: When I got home...what should be waiting in the mailbox but $600 worth of checks!!!
I didn't know whether to laugh or cry.
Boss said he'd take the new checks to the bank, since I'd had such a rough go of it today. How nice of him. To be fair though, I guess he really didn't have time today to go to the bank today, and we really did need some dough in the hole.
He'd better be glad he has me :)
