Trip to Cambria
Over the weekend, we made the trip to Cambria, in southern California, to recover the stolen property out of the Jeep we lost back in August. Several items were gone, but we did manage to find some valuable things...computer parts that needed to be sent back, a coat that he'd had for as long as I've known him, his thumb drive, a $250 piece of printer equipment, and I'm not even sure what else.
On the way back north, we decided to stop at Hearst Castle, since we were that close. Much to our disappointment, the tours were booked up for the day, but we did manage to snag some pics:
The closest we could get to the castle:
We stopped in Big Sur and ate dinner. That portobello mushroom appetizer I had was wonderful beyond description! There was some kind of bread, covered with goat cheese, and the mushroom lay on top of it, and this was covered with some kind of baby greens that I swear tasted like they'd been drizzled with bacon grease and onions...which made my Southern taste buds dance for joy! Whatever it was, it was fantastic! The shrimp scampi wasn't bad either.
We didn't get to stop by and see his stepmom; it was way too late for that by the time we got the Jeep cleaned out. I thought it interesting that he made the remark: "I wouldn't want to live down here anymore", as we were going through Santa Cruz. I asked why, and he said it was because it was much more crowded than when he was a kid. So much for being homesick.
We finally came dragging in, at 2AM. Slim sure was glad to see his mama! He still had plenty of food and water, so I guess I'll have to let His Majesty live, after all :)
